- Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Anja Niedringhaus shot dead by a policeman in Afghanistan while covering 2014 presidential elections. She was 48 years old. Along with her Kathy Gannon, Canadian Reporter got wounded.
- President Barack Obama nominated Sunil Sabharwal as the next US Alternate Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). At present he is acting as independent investor in the payment sectors.
- Japan announced to cancel its next Antarctic whaling programme after the ICJ of UN ordered an end to Whaling Programme of Japan.
- South Korea developed a ballistic missile capable of striking most of North Korea. Missile was launched from a test site in Taean. This missile is having the capability to carry up to one tonne of warhead.
- Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched India
