  1. Manuel Valls is the new Prime Minister of France. France’s president has named 51-year-old Socialist Manuel Valls as the country’s new prime minister.
  2. Nancy Powell, the US Ambassador to India on 31 March 2014 announced her resignation in the US Mission Town Hall meeting. The resignation was submitted to Barack Obama, the President of US. She would now get back to her home in Delaware before the end of May 2014. This action has ended a thirty-seven year career of Powell. During her long career, her other postings as the US Ambassador includes Uganda, Ghana, Pakistan, Nepal and India as well as service in Canada, Togo, Bangladesh, and Washington, where she was most recently Director General of the Foreign Service.
  3. The latest report of UN panel on Climate Change released on 30 March 2014 has warned that the climate change being faced in Asia has increased the risk of armed conflict among India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China. As per the report, the possibility of war would be due to the severe stress on water resources and food-grain production in future, due to climatic change.
  4. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan keeps key policy rate (repo) unchanged at 8% and CRR at 4% Pegs growth rate between 5 to 6%.
  5. In the new companies Act 2013, Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs notified rules for 10 more chapters. 29 chapters, 7 Schedules 470 sections were includes in the new Companies Act. This act was passed in the parliament in August 2013. Act came into effect from 1st April 2014.
  6. Noel N Tata has taken over as Chairman of Tata group firm Trent Ltd following the retirement of F H Kavarana. Established in 1998, Trent runs lifestyle chain "Westside", hypermarket chain "Star Bazaar" and "Landmark", a books and music chain. Earlier this year, British retail major Tesco formed a joint venture with the Tata Group firm by buying a 50 per cent stake in Trent Hypermarket Ltd (THL) for about 85 million pounds.
  7. New CFO of Tata Power is Ramesh N Subramanyam.
  8. Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder, drawn $1 per year in 2013. He is following the steps of technical giants such as Sergey Brin and Larry Page founders of Google, Steve Jobs co-founder of Apple.
  9. Team India will play South Africa in the second semi-final of the ICC World T20. Sri Lanka secured a spot in the semifinal of ICC World Twenty20 after defeating New Zealand by 59 runs. Sri Lanka will play first semi-final with West Indies.
  10. CNN IBN Innovation for a Better Tomorrow Award achieved by GCMMF (Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation). This is marketing Amul brand of milk and diary products. It had received this award for its role in creating socio economic revolution in rural India.
  11. US Started Accepting H-1B Visas from today. For receiving the applications US Citizens and Immigration Services made several arrangements.
  12. Dhole, The Asiatic Wild Dog, found in Jaldapara National Park. This dog was spotted for the first time in this park. This park is located at West Bengal. Before 3 months, these dogs were found in Neora Valley, Mahananda and Buxa Valleys.
  13. Public sector ITI Ltd has signed an MoU with the Department of Telecommunications for 2014-15.
