Tips to Increase Your Water Intake

The role of water in your body remains the same throughout the year, irrespective of the season. So what can you do to ensure that you drink enough water throughout the day?

Here are some tips to increase your water intake:

1. Set Water Targets

Keep yourself hydrated during winter by giving yourself water targets. Set a target of 8 glasses a day and count the numbers as you drink. This will make drinking water a fun game.

2. Feeling hungry? Have a glass of water

A lot of times our thirst manifests itself as hunger. Very often when we are warm and cozy in bed we crave something to eat. This is because we have been dormant for a long and our body signals our thirst for hunger. Just have a glass of water and you will notice your hunger going away.

3. Drink warm water

Drinking cool water during winter can be discouraging. So warm it up before drinking. This would not only rehydrate you but also make you feel warm.

4. Always keep a water bottle within reach

The biggest deterrent to drinking water is the distance from the source. We never want to leave warm cozy spaces to fetch water. Always keep a water bottle well within your reach. This way you can drink water whenever the thirst arises.

5. Have warm beverages

Have warm beverages like soup and herbal tea. These will hydrate your body and keep your electrolyte balance in check. Don’t go for ready-made soups, rather make easy and healthy soups at home.

6. Indulge in a moderate workout

Indulge in a moderate workout like brisk walking, jogging, and yoga. Doing some exercise will warm up your body and encourage you to drink some water. Moreover, exercising in winter will prevent those extra kilos from adding up.

7. Say no to alcohol and caffeine

Alcohol and caffeine dehydrate your body. They are mild diuretics, which means that they’ll make you urinate more frequently and your body will lose water faster. Caffeine and alcohol might make you feel warm momentarily but in the long run, they will lower your core body temperature.

8. Eat fresh fruits

Fresh fruits are a healthy and delicious way to replenish your body. Fruits like bananas, grapes, apples, oranges, kiwi, etc., when consumed in moderation are excellent source of electrolytes and water.

It is absolutely essential to keep our body hydrated in winter. These tips will help you do the same.
