  1. Army Chief of Egypt, Al-Sisi resigned from the post to contest in presidential election. He also resigned as the Defence Minister of the Country.
  2. General Sedki Sobhi has sworn-in as the new Defence Minister and Army Chief of Egypt. He is the successor of Field Marshal Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
  3. The Supreme Court today handed over the reins of BCCI to former player Sunil Gavaskar during IPL-7 and did not bar Chennai Superkings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) from participating in the tournament.
  4. West Zone defeated North Zone to win the Deodhar Trophy of Cricket 2014 in Visakhapatnam by a margin of 133 runs. Deodhar Trophy is a 50-over over inter zonal knockout Indian domestic cricket tournament. The one-day zonal championship, established in 1980s has been named after Prof. D. B. Deodhar (Dinkar Balwant Deodhar born on 14 January 1892 in Pune, Maharashtra. He is known as the Grand Old Man of Indian cricket. The tournament is annually played among five zonal teams namely North Zone, South Zone, East Zone, West Zone and Central Zone.
  5. India successfully test fire the missile Prithvi II. This missile is having the capacity of carrying 500 to 1000 kgs of warheads as stated by MVKV Prasad, ITR (Integrated Test Range) Director. Prithvi II was launched from launch complex 3 at Chandipur which had happened around 9.45 AM. This is the first missile developed by DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation).
  6. Walmart Stores Inc has filed a lawsuit against Visa Inc, accusing the credit & debit card giant of conspiring with banks to fix fees that merchants pay for accepting payments through Visa cards.
  7. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) extended the timeline for full implementation of the Basel III capital regulations by a year.
  8. C-130 J Super Hercules aircraft of Indian Air Force crashed in Karoli district of Rajasthan killing five crew members including four officers.
  9. Democratic elections in Fiji will be held on 17th September 2014 declared by Military Government of Fiji. This is the first general elections in Fiji. Due to election, that day was declared as paid holiday for all the people. Decree was signed by Interim President of Fiji Epeli Nailatikau.
  10. Supreme Court directed all the states and UTs to implement Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.
  11. Amnesty International annual report released that covers the judicial use of the death penalty in London.
